Little Nuggets for New Etsy Sellers
I have been selling on Etsy since November 20th. Since that time, I have learned some valuable tips for increasing your success on Etsy.
The most important thing is to take good photos. Invest in a good digital camera. I use a Sony. Once you have the camera, use the macro button if you are taking photos of small items such as jewelry. (The macro button looks like a tulip on the camera.) Use natural light, not the flash for the sharpest, true to color photos. I set up in front of my storm door on sunny days. If this isn't possible, look on the internet for simple instructions on how to build a light box.
The next thing is to promote your shop. Get business cards made or make them yourself. Look for places to post your web address. I post on reunion.com and classmates.com under my profile. I have my web address in my signature line on all of my e mails. I listed myself on some craft sites. Squidoo, Flickr,and MySpace are all great places to promote your shop.
Be active on the forums at Etsy. I was on them at first to learn, now I am able to help others.Pick an avatar that relates to your product. Your avatar and your shop will become known if you are active on the forums.
Renew an item or two daily to stay in the front of the category listings. Don't list everything at once.
The last hint I can give is to blog, blog, blog. There are many blogs out there related to crafting and Etsy. Look at some of them for inspiration.
Selling through an on-line shop does not stop after the product is made and listed. It takes much work and determination to reap great benefits. Good luck to all!
